Dorinel Munteanu: “I don’t think the fact that I called them ‘tanned’ is something racist”

Explaining that he had been insulted throughout the game, Munteanu said he did not find the language used to be racist.

“From the very beginning, a very big mistake was made. If you look at the interview and the young woman who was doing the interview, she told me about some of the fans, or so-called fans, who were behind the bench and the whole game they were throwing bad words at me and challenging me. And I don’t think the tan, what I called them “skinners” is racist.

The words addressed to me are more difficult. I was not allowed to do my job. I even asked the reserve umpire to come on the sheet and calm them down. Absolutely nothing happened.

I praised the Rapid fans, I said they were fantastic. But, may God forgive me, such specimens as those standing behind the bench are not in the honor of Rapid. And if I told them “tanned”, it does not mean that I offended them. I found the word more soothing…

I have picky friends, but those people showed their malice towards me. After the goal they threw bottles at me. No one sees this? Can you just say I said they were “tanned”? Many words were said that I cannot reproduce. I reacted like a normal person. I did not offend anyone.

I consider it disrespectful. I can’t understand what they have with me. I am not the last person in Romania who makes fun of me. I say one word “tan” and everyone jumps on my head? What does it mean?

To say that a man is “tanned”… What does that mean? What did I offend him? What did I offend? If you say I’m white or ‘tan’, should I be upset?’ – Dorinel Munteanuon DigiSport.
