PSD First Vice-President Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday that if Mircea Joane wants to win the support of the formation for the candidacy for the presidency of Romania, “first of all he should have a discussion with us, return to the party” and “together we will make the best decision for of the left regarding the future president of Romania”

  • “Mirce Joane is currently not a PSD candidate, he is not a PSD member. I said and I support it, that we should have a candidate for SDP members. We had right-wing presidents for 20 years, I believe that the left should give a president after 20 years, and the main left-wing party, because there are no others in the parliament, is PSD. If Mircea Joane wants to be a PSD candidate, first of all he must have a discussion with us, return to the party, because he was the president of this party, he was a member of the party, and together we must make the best decision so that the left will give the future president of Romania, i don’t customize: it wants to have PSD support, there is no other way. This is my point of view, maybe my colleagues, when we discuss the candidate, will have a different point of view,” Sorin told Grindeanu Tuesday night on Digi 24, according to News.ro.

He recalled that the PSD charter states that the party’s candidate for the highest post in the state is elected in Congress.

Mircea Joane, NATO’s deputy secretary-general, tops the list in terms of willingness to vote in the presidential election with 26.2%, followed by Marcel Çolaku, Diana Shoshoake, George Simion and Nicolae Chouke, according to a survey commissioned by INSCOP. News.ro.

If Joana does not run, the first place will go to Cholak with 27.4% of the vote, followed by Shoshoake, Simion and Chuke.

When asked about the polls that put Mircea Joane first in the voting plans for the presidential elections, PSD President Marcel Çolaku said: “That’s why! So we’re not holding elections anymore, if so… What’s the point of holding elections? He has presidential experience, he was only a few hours ago! That’s the end.”

The PSD president also stated that “there are polls and polls.”

“I have no problem, he is in first place, very good to run,” added Cholaku.
