Health Minister Alexandru Rafila says that more than 2,000 cases of COVID are being registered nationally every week. According to the minister, the disease caused by the coronavirus continues to cause deaths, approximately 40% of patients who died after being diagnosed with this infection were vaccinated people, News.ro reports.

  • “I want to tell you that we have about 300 cases (of COVID-19) nationally every day, just over 2,000 cases every week. It is alarming that there are also fatalities, about 25-30 deaths, and about 40% of the number of deaths are vaccinated people. I don’t want to make any other comments, this is a situation related to infection with the new coronavirus,” Alexandru Rafila said on TVR Info on Monday evening.

He recalled that in December, Romania received and distributed to family doctors the serum against the new strains of the virus that caused the COVID disease.

  • “Anyone who wants to can contact a family doctor who has this vaccine,” the minister added.

He explained that unlike the vaccines originally supplied by Moderna, which were multi-dose, the vaccine against the new strains of SARS-CoV-2 is a single dose.

Rafila said that as with the flu, this vaccine is recommended, it does not prevent the disease, but if infected, those who come in contact with the virus develop a milder form of the infection.

According to Rafila, the vaccines were arranged and paid for two and a half years ago.
