Yogi is considered the oldest in Romania and probably the second oldest in the world.

Yogi was brought to the Liberty Reserve in Sibiu after spending more than 30 years in a zoo in the municipality on the Cibin River.

Although he was old, the brown bear was full of energy and spent most of his time exploring the forest around the Liberty Preserve.

“Rescued after 30 years of imprisonment in the Sibiu Zoo, Yogi always surprised us with his zest for life and curiosity to know every bit of land in the forest of the AMP Libearty reserve. Unfortunately, at the beginning of last summer, the signs of old age made themselves felt. It became difficult for him to walk, difficult to get up, so he was transferred to a smaller unit, where it was possible to carefully monitor his health. In the last period, he constantly needed painkillers,” said representatives of the reserve.

The sanctuary was founded in 2005 by the association “Milioane de prenti” Brasov and opened to the public in 2008, located in a forest on a hill at the entrance to the town of Zernest, near Brasov.

Libearti Reserve in Zernest covers an area of 69 hectares of forest, is the largest brown bear reserve in the world and the only one in Romania. It is home to over 100 brown bears, all rescued from a cruel and brutal life in captivity.
