Justice Minister Alina Gorgiu said on Saturday, regarding the case of fugitive Catalin Cereces, that they had been sent a request this week to provide certain information regarding Romanian law. She showed that every convict who at some point decided to leave the country, through a team of lawyers, tries to formulate “all kinds of defenses that become more and more interesting, bizarre, strange, unjustified”, but this is “the way in which he tries to continue his stay in Germany”.

“In particular, this week we were offered a request to which we responded immediately, a request asking us to provide some information regarding the Romanian law regarding the following aspect: whether these extraordinary lines of attack formulated by the lawyers of Katelin Cereceş could lead to a stay of execution the sentence of Cherechesh according to the decision of the executive court,” said Alina Gorgiu at a press conference, News.ro reports.

The Minister of Justice clarified that any lawyer in Romania knows that “a simple filing of an extraordinary appeal by a convicted person does not cancel the binding and enforceable execution of the final sentence”, as this is provided by the law and what he informed. and a court in Germany.

“Every convict who at some point decides to leave the country, through a team of lawyers, tries to formulate all kinds of defenses, which become more and more interesting, and put in quotation marks the word interesting, strange, strange, unjustified, but this is the way of those who try to continue their stay in Germany. I am absolutely convinced that the court will analyze the Romanian legislation, analyze our point of view and continue the surrender procedure in Romania. This is an ongoing procedure, it is part of judicial cooperation in criminal cases between Romania and Germany,” Gorgiu said.
