Javi Pascual has resigned as head coach of the Romanian men’s handball team after finishing 22nd at the European Championship in Germany.

Javi Pascual resigned from the national team of Romania

The coach of “Dynamo” managed to lead Romania to the final tournament of the European Championship after a 28-year break, but the “three-color team” lost three matches at the EURO: 24-31 – to Austria, 24-36 – to Spain and 25-31 – to Croatia.

Pascual’s second term in the Romanian national team began in 2022, after he coached the “tricolor” in the period 2016-2018.

And the General Secretary of the Handball Federation of Romania, Viorel Mazilu, resigned after a conflict with President Constantin Din.

The National Sports Agency has decided that the Romanian Handball Federation does not meet the eligibility criteria for public funding. Last year, FRH received 1.3 million euros from ANS.
