“Recently, Emergency Decree No. 1 dated January 18, 2024 on amendments and additions to the extraordinary government order no. 195/2002 on traffic on public roads, which significantly improves the handling of agricultural and forestry tractors. A new driving license category called Tr1 was introduced. It is very important to clarify that the main characteristic of this category is the speed limit, namely 40 km/h on public roads. In addition, we clearly emphasize that in this category the maximum authorized total weight or tonnage is not taken into account,” Agriculture Minister Florin Barbou said in a press release quoted by Agerpres.

According to the quoted source, the new permit is compatible with the category B permit. “If you already have a category B permit, you can drive not only cars and minibuses, but also agricultural or forestry tractors of the Tr1 category. This permit category, Tr1, covers aggregates formed by a Tr1 tractor and one or two trailers, subject to the speed limit of 40 km/h on public roads,” the Minister notes.

In addition, with a Tr1 category license, you can drive agricultural or forestry tractors with a maximum speed of up to 40 km/h on public roads, and the Tr1 driving license category also covers combinations consisting of a Tr1 tractor and one or two trailers. This rule applies regardless of the permitted maximum weight of the vehicle or the composition of the vehicles.

“This Tr1 category meets your needs by simplifying the management of agricultural or forestry tractors intended for agricultural activities without imposing criteria related to the maximum permissible gross weight or tonnage,” explained Florin Barbu.

On January 18, the government passed an emergency decree on the equivalence of the category B permit to the TR1 permit, a newly introduced category that will allow agricultural or forestry tractors to be driven at a maximum speed of 40 km/h in public places. roads
