Chisinau International Airport has a new abbreviation from Thursday – the sign RMO, which means the Republic of Moldova, will appear on the flight maps, instead of the Soviet name KIV, Radio Chisinau reports.
“In case of any uncertainty related to this change in the process of booking a ticket, we encourage you to contact the airline you are interested in,” the airport administration said.
Until now, Chisinau International Airport had the abbreviation KIV, an abbreviation of the Russian name Chisinau, which is used as an approximation of the name of the capital of Moldova in Russian.
The new abbreviation of Chisinau International Airport – RMO – stands for the Republic of Moldova.
“The main goal is to eliminate the Russian name KIV and get rid of the legacy of what the name Chisinau meant,” said Infrastructure Minister Andriy Spinu. (Photo: Dreamstime.com)
