Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger was detained at Munich airport in southern Germany on Wednesday after he failed to declare a valuable watch for sale at customs, German customs officials told AFP.
After arriving from the United States, the 76-year-old Austrian-American actor will probably be able to continue his journey, but will have to leave his watch in Munich, customs spokesman Thomas Meister said.
A criminal case was opened against the former governor of California for tax fraud: Schwarzenegger should have declared the watch to customs and paid taxes because he would remain in the EU, Meister said.
According to the German daily Bild, which revealed the incident, the former “Terminator” and “Conan the Barbarian” star wanted to sell the expensive watch on Thursday at a dinner organized in the famous Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel.
During this dinner, artworks and valuables will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to support the Hollywood star’s various climate projects.
