The passenger, described by media as a 55-year-old American man, bit the crew member’s hand, slightly injuring her, when he was “totally drunk,” an All Nippon Airways spokesman told AFP.

The incident forced the pilots of the plane, which had 159 people on board, to return over the Pacific Ocean to Haneda Airport in the Japanese capital, where the man was handed over to the police, according to ANA.

As reported by the Japanese TV channel TBS, the interviewed passenger told the investigators that he “does not remember anything” about his behavior.

Several netizens on social media compared the incident to “the beginning of a zombie movie.”
