“The first meeting of the National Executive Office of Pro Romania took place today. Our decision remains clear, to run independently in the elections to the European Parliament on June 9, Viktor Ponta will lead the list, and I will be in second place. The countries were asked to send proposals of candidates to the European Parliament. We are a social democratic party that has professional people who can face the current challenges, starting with the energy crisis, price explosion, farmers’ problems, as well as the international context related to Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East. In the current political context, we can consolidate and rise. We have 2,500 local elected officials, mayors, vice-mayors and more than 1,000 local councilors who are convinced that they only want to do good for their peers and communities,” MEP Corina Kretsu told Agerpres on Saturday.

The MEP believes that the growth and decline of extremist political forces in Western Europe may lead to the marginalization of citizens of Eastern Europe.

“Personally, I am afraid of the anti-Europeanism of some parties, which more or less veiledly campaign for the marginalization of our country in the European Union, as well as extremist currents in Western Europe. If they collapse, they will only harm the citizens of Eastern Europe, including Romanians. Romania is a member of the European Union, a status that was hard won but not entirely fruitful. The choice of people who will represent their interests in the European Union and in the European Parliament depends on the Romanian people,” said Corina Kretsu.
