AUR President George Simion went on Thursday evening to transporters protesting at the entrance to the capital and asked the gendarmes to allow them access to Bucharest with tractors. Some of the protesters booed him and asked him to leave, accusing him of trying to get votes. Everything was broadcast live on the Facebook account itself.
George Simion went on Thursday evening to the protesting transporters and farmers in Giagene, who were denied access to the capital by gendarmes and police.
Simion accused the PSD and the authorities of wanting to block people’s right to protest and express their discontent.
The AUR leader insisted that the gendarmes allow the tractors access to Bucharest, and the gendarmes explained to him that this was prohibited by law, but the transporters could move to the government headquarters on foot.
When asked why he went there, Simion answered: “Because Cholaku is afraid, Grindyan and Barba will not escape. What are you afraid of, don’t run away, PSD!”.
Some of the protesters, however, expressed their displeasure with the presence of the AUR leader and booed him: “Leave the protest to us, Simon! You have come to do your trick, Mr. Simion.”
“Where were you when we were having a hard time?”, “You came for votes,” they also shouted at him.
Earlier in Facebook posts, the AUR leader denied that the group was behind the protest.
“We are not ‘for’ the protests, but I am publicly expressing my support for the protestors’ grievances,” Simion wrote on Facebook.
Hundreds of carriers from across the country took part in Thursday’s second day of protest. Trucks from all over the country traveled to Bucharest to join transport company workers already protesting in the capital’s beltway.
Several transporters and farmers are located in Chiajna. The gendarmes and the police do not allow them to enter the capital.
