Five people have been trapped in the Križna cave in southwestern Slovenia since Saturday afternoon after heavy rains raised the water level, making it impossible for rescuers to get them out, local media reported on Sunday, Reuters and AFP reported.

The group, a family of three and two tour guides, hid in a safe place in the 8.2-kilometer Kryzhna Yama cave, which can only be visited by boat.

Rescuers managed to reach the group briefly on Saturday night and deliver food, water and a heated tent, civil defense officials in the area told reporters on Sunday.

As the rescuers informed the media, five adults who are in a dry shelter are in satisfactory condition.

But because the group was located more than two kilometers from the cave entrance, it took three to four hours for the new team of divers to reach them, officials said, adding that the rescue would depend on when the water level drops, the news agency reported. STA agency.

It could be Sunday night, but it could be a few days.

If the water level remains high, rescuers plan to deliver everything they need every 12 hours.

Kryzna, a chain of underground lakes with emerald green water, is the fourth largest known cave ecosystem in the world in terms of biodiversity.
