​The Ministry of Education submitted a project for public discussion, according to which the basic salaries of school principals and deputy principals will increase by an average of more than 36% gross this year. Some increases are applied already in January 2024.

The Ministry of Education says that this change will correct inequalities in the system:

• “With the draft decision of the Government, we fix inequalities in remuneration for the management positions of teachers of the system of pre-university education (director, deputy director, chief accountant, chief secretary).
• Therefore, this year for directors and deputy directors, compared to the gross salary in December 2023, the total average gross increase will be more than 36%, of which the average gross increase in January will be 30%.
• In order to eliminate the existing in December 2023 inequalities regarding the salaries of teaching and managerial positions, the principle was applied according to which the salaries of these positions should be higher than the maximum level of salaries of the management staff.”

“According to the current draft of the regulation, for the management positions of the director in January 2024 the minimum basic salary is 10,590 lei and the maximum basic salary is 11,242 lei, the difference between them is 652 lei, and in June 2024 this is the minimum basic salary 11,260 lei and the maximum basic salary of 11,812 lei, the difference between them is 552 lei,” the Ministry of Education also notes.
