Russia may attack Europe in a few years if the EU countries do not come to a conclusion on the restructuring of the Russian economy according to the military principle and dramatically increase the potential of their defense industry, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on Wednesday, as quoted by Ukrinform.
Tusk made the comments at a press conference he held to discuss an incident late last year, when Poland told NATO that an unidentified object had again violated its airspace.
Poland’s prime minister said on Wednesday that protecting NATO’s airspace and strengthening NATO’s eastern flank is an “absolute priority” today.
The head of the Polish government emphasized that, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslav Sikorsky, he prepared an appeal on strengthening the capabilities of the European military defense system “not only for the sake of the fastest possible support for Ukraine”, but also because “Almost the entire Russian economy during the war was transferred to the system of military defense” armament [din Ucraina]and Europe is far behind.”
“We want to mobilize the entire European Union, and for this we use all possible diplomatic and persuasive means so that they understand that without a radical increase in efforts in the field of armaments, we will be left far behind,” explained Donald Tusk.
“This will mean one thing: Europe will come under direct attack from Russia in the next few years,” Tusk emphasized, adding that no one can doubt that “in this strategic perspective, Europe is the target of Russian aggression, and it will happen when the advantage Russia’s military capabilities will become obvious.”
Donald Tusk calls on the EU to arm itself stronger than Russia
Therefore, Tusk said that it is a “strategic necessity” for all of Europe to be militarily stronger than Russia. “This is the only way to guarantee the security of Polish and European borders,” he concluded.
Tusk’s new comments come after he assured last month that his government would continue to strongly support Ukraine, saying the entire free world must mobilize to help Kiev repel Russian aggression.
“We will directly and decisively call for the full mobilization of the free world, the Western world, to help Ukraine in this war,” Tusk said in parliament, presenting his government’s plans.
Speaking before parliament in Warsaw, he then assured that he would continue to be a close ally of the United States and promised that Poland would restore its status as a leader in the European Union.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, for his part, warned earlier this week that if Russia violates the rights of Ukrainians, “it will violate the rights of the world,” and that if Ukraine loses, Putin will bring his wars closer to the West.
“Putin feels weak like an animal because he is an animal. He feels blood, feels his power. And he will eat you for dinner with the EU, NATO, freedom and democracy,” said the Kyiv leader in an interview published on Monday by The Economist.
