Turkey has arrested 33 people suspected of spying for Israel, Turkish news agencies Anadolu and DHA reported on Tuesday, reported by Agerpres.
The suspects, arrested in several provinces of the country, are suspected of spying on foreign nationals living in Turkey on behalf of Israeli intelligence services, the official Anadolu news agency reported.
Thirteen more suspects accused of the same crimes are currently being sought, Anadolu and private news agency DHA added.
The nationalities of the defendants have not been disclosed.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikakaya said on the X social network that Israeli intelligence agencies were preparing an “attack” or “kidnapping” of some of the spying foreigners.
Since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in early October, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a traditional ally of the Palestinian cause, has stepped up his attacks on Israel.
Erdogan said on Wednesday that there is “no difference” between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Adolf Hitler.
