One of the six Israeli soldiers killed since the start of Israel’s ground offensive in the Gaza Strip was killed by accident or by his comrades, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday, confirming media reports, dpa informs.

The overall balance is 29 soldiers who died, 18 of whom died at the hands of their comrades in so-called “friendly fire”.

Another two were killed by random bullets, and nine by accident, for example, due to equipment malfunction.

A total of 172 soldiers have been killed and more than 900 wounded since the start of the Israeli ground offensive in Gaza in late October last year, according to figures provided by the army.

Since the start of the war on October 7, when the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas carried out the worst massacre in Israeli history, 506 Israeli soldiers, men and women, have been killed.
