Melissa Dennis was hit by a driver in Adelaide, Australia on the night of December 30 and died of her injuries in hospital the following morning.
Rohan Dennis is accused of hitting her while driving a pickup truck.
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Dennis was charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He was released on bail and will be heard in court in March, News.ro reports.
Melissa Dennis, who was 32, was also a great cyclist, being the World Team Pursuit Champion and winner of the Tour of Chongming Island in 2012.
She retired at the end of 2017 and married Rohan Dennis the following year. The couple has two children.
