Retired in 2021, former featherweight and lightweight champion Conon McGregor has announced the “biggest comeback in the history of the sport” for a fight he will announce on the first day of the new year.

“The greatest comeback in sports history,” he wrote on his X (Twitter) account. “I will announce the date of my match and my opponent on New Year 2024,” he also wrote.

Conor McGregor, 35, last lost to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Since then, there have been regular rumors of a comeback.

The head of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Dana White, who dreams of a return at the much-anticipated UFC 300 next April, recently confirmed the existence of negotiations with Conor McGregor: “We will find a solution. We are having discussions,” News.ro reports.

But it is possible that Conor McGregor’s return to competition will take place outside the UFC. “The Saudis are negotiating with me to fight Manny Pacquiao,” he recently announced on social media, suggesting that it would not be impossible for him to take part in a very lucrative boxing match.
