And in 2022, MedLife continued business development, opening 7 new divisions and making 13 acquisitions, entering new business segments (health and health insurance) and becoming the most powerful diagnostic and treatment platform in Romania. Thus, last year MedLife completed the acquisition of Onco Card Hospital, Neolife, Opticristal Clinic and Sweat Concept Gyms, being currently the only operator of comprehensive preventive, health and treatment services in Romania.

Patient care remains the main concern of MedLife’s specialist teams, and investment in innovative solutions to improve the quality of care is also a priority in 2022. Thus, at MedLife Medical Park, the largest medical center of the Group, patients from Romania could benefit from robotic interventions performed using the da Vinci Xi technology, which are used to treat a wide range of diseases (gynecological, urological, digestive, oncological, bariatric, and abdominal wall diseases). Some of last year’s investment also went towards upgrading equipment and facilities at several units across the country. One of these investments was made in the MedLife Lotus Hospital in Ploiesti, which currently uses the most advanced ultrasound system available worldwide, the Voluson Expert 22.

In September 2022, a team of neurosurgeons from the MedLife Humanitas Hospital in Cluj tested the most advanced robotic and integrated neuronavigation technology currently available in the world, the Brainlab suite, for implementation in the hospital. The navigation and robotic neuronavigation platform, tested by Cluj doctors, is used in major neurosurgical centers abroad for spine interventions. After the acquisition, MedLife Humanitas Hospital became the first center in Romania and one of the few in Europe to offer patients the benefits of this revolutionary technological solution.

As for medical services in dermatology, from 2022 patients can benefit from treatment with the new Dp Dermaceuticals EXO-SKIN series and the Dermapen4 device. This is the latest innovation in regenerative therapy in the field of aesthetic medicine, available at MedLife Humanitas Hospital.

Caring for employees

An important priority for MedLife is also the care of employees, the human capital that plays a crucial role in the development, success and stability of the business. Thus, the expansion of the group in recent years has brought the number of employees and collaborators to 10,000. Of these, as of December 31, 2022, the MedLife team had approximately 4,500 employed doctors and 2,600 nurses. The success of MedLife Group depends on large teams of doctors, professors, teachers, doctors of medicine, assistants, as well as non-medical staff, who perform their work with dedication and professionalism every day. Community care

Community care remains MedLife’s primary concern, which strives to improve people’s lifestyles through the healthcare services provided. MedLife is currently running several initiatives aimed at increasing access to health services for as many people as possible, especially in rural areas and regions with limited access to health services.

The Mobile Caravan project continues to expand access to health services for people from disadvantaged areas (where there is no permanent or permanent medical staff). In 2022, the project continued in disadvantaged communities in Moldova, where in May MedLife offered free medical services through a mobile unit. In October 2022, the MedLife Health Caravan also arrived in the village of Neceşti in Teleorman County. Since the launch of the “Health Caravan” project, the MedLife mobile clinic has traveled more than 5,000 km, examined, consulted and tested more than 3,000 people for free.

Another way MedLife approaches the community is through humanitarian aid to Ukraine. MedLife delivered humanitarian aid in three tranches to Ukraine’s military hospitals, as well as children’s and adult hospitals, and consisted of individual emergency kits for military personnel, medical supplies, sanitary and hygienic materials, rabies and tetanus vaccines, blankets and medicines. At the same time, MedLife sent a mobile clinic to the Sziget Marmacia border crossing as support and first aid for refugees.

Out of concern for children and a better future, MedLife also launched the first free genetic testing program for children newly diagnosed with cancer to improve therapeutic success. One test analyzes most classes of genetic mutations that can occur in 523 genes associated with several types of cancer.

Environmental care

Caring for the environment is one of MedLife’s missions, especially in the context of climate change affecting humanity. Thus, also in 2022, as part of the commitment to make Romania green, on the occasion of Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5, MedLife participated in a greening campaign organized together with Let’s Do It Romania. 40 MedLife employees together with the Let’s Do It Romania team collected approximately one ton of irresponsibly stored waste in a few hours. The promotion is part of a large-scale project that started in 2017, when the company planted a tree for every baby born in MedLife maternity hospitals.

According to the 2022 Sustainability Report, innovation is one of the main elements that have brought MedLife to a leading position in the private healthcare market in Romania. For nearly three decades, MedLife’s integrated healthcare system has aimed to improve patients’ quality of life, increase life expectancy and offer the latest diagnostic and treatment options through the integration of information technology and the spread of innovation at all levels.
