Two teenage brothers – aged 14 and 15 – are under investigation in Florida after their sister was shot and killed during a dispute over Christmas presents, the BBC reports.
A young woman aged 23 was shot in the chest by her 14-year-old brother while she was with her 10-month-old son in a stroller, the sheriff’s office in Florida said, News.ro said.
The 14-year-old boy was then shot and killed by his one-year-old older brother, who pulled his own gun, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said, adding that the shooting happened after an argument over who got more presents.
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told reporters that the 15-year-old fled the scene and dropped the gun before being caught.
The younger brother, 14, was taken to the hospital in stable condition and will be taken into custody when he is released, police said.
Local prosecutors will review the case and decide whether to charge him as an adult in his sister’s murder, Sheriff Gualtieri added.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Sheriff Gualtieri said.
He explained that the woman had internal bleeding and could not breathe, but added that the child in the stroller was not injured.
The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
