​Christmas 2023 will go down in weather history due to the unusually high temperatures recorded in Romania. In recent years, December 25 was hot, but like now. According to ANM, it was 21 degrees in Oltenia and 17 degrees in Bucharest. The temperature is also 12-14 degrees above normal for the period.

It was 21 degrees in Calafat, 20 degrees in Becket, and 19 degrees in Zimniche, Beilesti and Turnu-Magurele. It was 18 degrees in Mangalia, 17 degrees in Courtea de Arges and 15 degrees in Ajuda. In Bystrica, the maximum temperature was only 3 degrees. The highest temperature was recorded around 14:00.

On Christmas morning 2023, the temperature was above zero almost everywhere, the highest temperature was +7.4 C in Constanta. In Sibiu it was +5.7 C. In the morning at 7 o’clock the temperature was also 10-11 C.

Even the day before it was warm: the maximum during the day was +16.7 degrees in Calafat.

The last ten years at Christmas it was much warmer than in the 80s and 90s, it snowed much less often, even in the mountains it was +10 degrees. In 2017, it was +18.9 degrees in Calafat, +17.7 degrees in Tirgovishte, and +18.3 degrees in Kalarash in 2010.

One of the warmest Christmas nights was in 2002, when the minimum did not fall below +11 in Constanta.

In 2014, it was the warmest eve in the last 50 years, on December 24 in Tirgovishte, the maximum temperature was +19.3 C. On Christmas, they were +15.3.

In 2021, it was +17.6 C at Christmas in Zimniche, and +17 C in Beche, Calafat and Turnu-Magurele. Cluj, Daraban and Radeuca only had a maximum of 2 C. In Calafat at night it was +10.5 degrees, very high for the end of December.

Last year at Christmas, the warmest was in Ploiești, +15.5°C, and in Bucharest, Calafat and Tirgoviste it was +15°C. It was 3°C at lunchtime in Predial, as well as in Stan de Valais.

And in 2020, Christmas was warm, a maximum of +16.1 C in Constanta. Stan de Valais had only +1 C.
