Hungary’s State Secretariat for Hungarian Communities Abroad announced on Saturday that it is sending HUF 20 million (€52,356) in emergency aid following the tragic accident at the Tamasi Aron boarding high school in Odorheiu-Sekousek, in which a student aged 17 died, MTI reports, Agerpres reports.

The aid will be provided through the Alliance of Hungarian Teachers in Romania and will be intended to replace damaged technical equipment used by students, according to a press release from the Hungarian State Secretariat for Hungarian Communities Abroad.

The boarding school building of Tamasi Aron High School in Odorhei Sekujesk, Harghita District, partially collapsed on Monday afternoon, trapping four students under the rubble.

Two students were taken out conscious, another was given resuscitation measures, to which she responded. All three were taken to the hospital, one of them was intubated.

The fourth victim – a boy – was later pulled out, resuscitation measures were carried out, but to no avail, so he was pronounced dead.

The Criminal Prosecution Department of the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Appeal of Tirgu Mures took up the case. A number of witnesses were heard and a number of documents were collected to be included in the case file.

The owner of the company, which carried out work on the connection to the sewage network of the high school-boarding school in Odorhei Sekujesk, whose wall collapsed, was placed under judicial control.

On Tuesday, after hearing several people, the company’s administrator was detained for 24 hours. The man is being investigated for the crimes of intentional homicide and intentional bodily harm.

The government on Thursday decided to allocate funds for the families affected by the recent tragedy in Odorhei-Secuiesk, as follows: for the two injured and hospitalized girls, 8,000 lei each, for the girl who is in a worse condition, in a coma, 10,000 lei, and also 10,000 lei for the family of the deceased young man, said government spokesman Mihai Kostyantyn.
