Traffic on section 3 of the DEx12 Craiova – Pitesti expressway will be opened on Saturday at noon. Approximately 32 kilometers of expressway between Slatina and Koloneşti (border with Arges county) were built by the Romanian company UMB and will be launched shortly before the contract deadline, but with a temporary relief installed at the end from Pitesti.

Section 3 is approximately 31.7 km long and had an official completion date of January 2024. The new section of the expressway follows section 2 (40 km), also built by UMB and opened last year.

The most sensitive area: the passage to Jitaru / Works until the last moment

The Association Pro Infrastructura recalls that one of the reasons why the opening of traffic on section 3 DEx 12 was made so late in 2023, although forecasts showed that the opening would be possible already in the autumn, is that the CNAIR “unauthorizedly delayed the bureaucratic banality in Jitaru”.

DEx 12 Craiova – Pitesti – 121 kilometers, with four sections staggered between them

In total, the DEx12 Craiova-Pitesti expressway will be 121 kilometers long, divided into four sections. Now only a third can be used, the rest are in various stages of completion.

In the summer of 2022, the first 40 km of expressway was launched in Romania Section 2 Kraiova-Pitesti expressway.

The plot was built by the association led by the Romanian developer UMB, the same one that is also operating now Section 3and on lot 4 to the junction with the A1 near Pitesti (lot 4 has a completion date of 2024).

Enabled Chapter 1 (17.7 km) 358 million lei contract with the Italians from Tirrena Scavi was terminated in December 2022 at a stage of about 59% due to poor mobilization at the construction site.

For this section, CNAIR concluded a contract for the completion of the section for 440 million lei with the Association OZALTIN ​​​​​​INSAAT TICARET VE SANAYI AS (leader) – STRADE BAUUNTERNEHMUNG SRL – VISIO CONSTRUCTION WORKS SRL. The association assumed that it would complete the work in 18 months.

Work has only recently started, but the minister and highways chiefs are hoping for a record-breaking completion if they announce that it will open in 2024.
