The perpetrator of the massacre was a 24-year-old student at Karolinska University, and according to Czech police, there are no signs of a terrorist attack.

Czech police chief Martin Vondrasek said at a press conference that the suspect, a 24-year-old student at Karolinska University, had to leave his home in Hostoun, a small town west of Prague, to go to school, The Guardian reported. .

The police chief told how the events developed:

  • At 12:40, the police found the lifeless body of his father in the house.
  • The police then learned that the suspect was scheduled to give a lecture at the university at 2:00 p.m., went there and ordered the building to be evacuated.
  • However, the suspect went to another building of the university, where he opened fire.
  • The first information about the attack came to the police at 14:59.
  • Emergency personnel arrived on the scene in a matter of minutes, and special forces – in 12 minutes.
  • At 3:20 p.m., the police received information that the intruder’s lifeless body was on the windowsill of the building.
  • Although the attacker appears to have committed suicide, police also fired shots, so it is unclear what the immediate cause of the suspect’s death was.
