Czech police say several people have been killed and “dozens” of people injured in a shootout near a university in central Prague, reports said. BBC and Reuters.

The police reported that the attacker was “liquidated” and the building was evacuated.

According to reports, the incident took place at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, located on Jan Palach Square.

Authorities said the entire market and the surrounding area were closed.

“Suddenly we heard shots,” a witness who was at the scene told Czech news station Mlada Fronta Dnes.

Charles University is located in the Old Town of Prague, about 500 meters from the historic Charles Bridge, a tourist magnet.

University urges workers to “stay put”

Czech Karlov University asked employees in an email to “remain in place” and close doors after reports of a shooting in one of its buildings in Prague.

“Stay where you are, don’t go anywhere, if you’re in offices, lock them and put the furniture in front of the door, turn off the lights,” said an email to staff at Charles University’s philosophy department, seen by Reuters.
