The administrator of the company that carried out sewage works in the immediate vicinity of the Tamasi Aron High School boarding school in Odorhei Sekujesk, which partially collapsed, has been detained for 24 hours, judicial sources quoted by News.ro said.

The owner of the company that carried out the sewer connection work to the building where the Tamasi Aron High School boarding school in Odorhei Sekujesk was operating, says that he ordered the excavations on Monday and that they were done by an excavator and that he did not know that there were students inside the building.

“In the morning (on Monday – no) we gave the order to people to do… On 10 (the order was given – no) and on 12-13 let it be ready, let’s put the membrane back and put the earth,” he told reporters on Tuesday, the owner company, reports News.ro.

He clarified that the earthworks were carried out by an excavator and in just a few seconds the wall collapsed, without feeling the vibrations of the building after the excavator started digging.

“A colleague only saw that some plaster was falling from above. Then it was clear that he was leaving. It was three, a maximum of five seconds (until the wall fell – no),” Sandor Laszlo Sylvester explained.

He said he didn’t know there were any students in the building.

Works on connection to the sewage network were carried out on the basis of a permit issued in October by the Odorheiu Secujesk City Hall.

The head of the State Building Inspection, Paul Rakowitz, said in Odorhei Secuiesc that any incident of this kind can be avoided if the rules are followed.

“Any accident of this nature could have been avoided by paying a little attention, a little caution and following the current technical regulations. I think, from what I’ve seen so far, there’s a mismatch between what’s physically on the field and part of the project,” said Paul Rakowice.
