Airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 100 people in the past 24 hours, as Israel’s leadership faces mounting international pressure for a ceasefire and the resumption of hostage talks after the Israeli army shot dead three of its citizens kidnapped by Hamas.

05:47The vote on the new draft resolution of the UN Security Council should take place on Monday. The document calls for an “urgent cessation of hostilities to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip” and the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.”

As with the previous resolution, which the US opposed, the new draft does not directly mention Hamas, instead vaguely condemning “all indiscriminate attacks on civilians.”

The text also supports the decision to create two states in the region and “underlines the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority.”

05:30 Three hostages accidentally killed by Israel Defense Forces in Gaza on Friday used leftover food to write placards pleading for help, the BBC reports.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the men had been in the building where they were shot for “some time”.

Officials admitted that killing the men with the white flag was a violation of the “rules of engagement.”

05:00 US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will arrive in Israel on Monday for a visit as Washington pressures Israel to limit attacks on civilians, despite US military and diplomatic support.

British newspaper The Guardian reported that Austin would announce the creation of a new maritime security force following repeated attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on merchant ships crossing the Red Sea.

04:30In a statement to Al Jazeera, Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra condemned Israel for trying to “liquidate” the medical sector in the besieged enclave by attacking all hospitals in the area.

“Targeting Nasser’s medical complex is part of a policy to eliminate the medical sector in the southern Gaza Strip,” he added.

On Sunday evening, one child was killed and three others were injured during explosions in the maternity ward of Nasser Hospital. This is the latest in a series of military operations targeting medical facilities, including Kamal Adwan and al-Shifa hospitals.
