In addition, tens of thousands of displaced people have taken shelter in the hospital complex, where there is no drinking water or food, the WHO said in a statement published on Sunday.

There are hundreds of victims in the emergency department and new patients are arriving every minute, while treatment facilities are very limited, if not non-existent, the organization says.

Patients in critical condition are transferred to Ahli Arab Hospital for surgery, this is the only hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip that is currently “partially functioning”, the other three are working “on the edge”, – al-Shifa, al. -Avda and al-Sahaba, and before the war there were 24 of them, WHO also wrote.

The WHO also announced its readiness to “revive” Al Shifa Hospital “in the coming weeks”, saying that up to 20 operating and post-operative services could be activated if they received fuel, oxygen, medicine, food, water. and personal.

The entire hospital infrastructure in Gaza was severely damaged in the war triggered by the unprecedented attack on Israeli territory by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on October 7, an attack that killed around 1,200 people, most of them civilians. In response, Israel vowed to destroy the Islamist movement and has since launched an intense bombardment of the Gaza Strip, resulting in nearly 18,800 deaths, mostly women and children, according to Hamas’ Health Ministry.

Israel accuses Hamas of using hospitals, which under the laws of war must enjoy special protection, to hide weapons or command posts. (Source: Agerpres)
