AUR President George Simion said on Friday night that his party was considering political alliances with “everyone” after next year’s parliamentary elections, except the PSD, which appears to be “unreformed”.

“First of all, we count on winning the elections with only Romanians. Otherwise, if parliamentary arithmetic does not allow us to get 50% plus one vote, we are discussing with everyone except the current PSD leadership (…) PSD is a party that proves it is unreformed, and I am not interested in PSD as a party, but I am interested in the fate of Romania. And when we become the first government project with a two-thirds reduction of mayors and vice-mayors, local councils and district councils, the PSD will be the first force to resist through the army of local barons, who through the army of people who take the sword by the trunk – we saw Vaslui, Botosani and other cases,” Simion said on Digi 24, Agerpres reports.

He added that Ludovic Orbán is an infrequent politician, just like PSD-PNL, but many people from Forţa Dreptei and USR are dialogue partners for AUR.

“We will enter into an alliance only with the Romanians, we refuse PSD-PNL, this terrible coalition. Mr. Orban, as an old politician, is not frequent for us. But many people from Forţa Dreptei, as well as many people who are members of the USR, are dialogue partners for us,” Simion said.

When asked if he was thinking of running for president of Romania, Simion said he did not rule out any option, but added that a leadership position would suit him “faster”.

“I have been building my election campaign since joining politics in 2019. I am not ruling out any possibility. I think that it will suit me, at the moment when AUR manages to win the first place in the preferences of Romanians, rather a leadership position, but in life it is not good to exclude anything”, concluded the leader of AUR.
