Russian authorities on Thursday placed the head of the Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine (GUR) on the wanted list, Kyril Budanov, as this structure is considered responsible for several attacks against Russia, AFP reports.
The name of 37-year-old Kirill Budanov now appears in the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for violation of the criminal code, reports Agerpres.
The Russian authorities did not specify why he is being accused.
Budanov, who since 2020 heads the military intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, is accused by the Russian authorities of organizing the attack in October 2022, which partially destroyed the bridge connecting Crimea, a Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014, with Russia.
At the end of November, Ukraine said it suspected Russia of heavy metal poisoning of Budanov’s wife, Marianna Budanova, who is an adviser to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitsyko.
The Kremlin rejected the accusations, and its spokesman Dmytro Peskov assured the media that “Ukraine always blames Russia for everything.”
