Labor Minister Simona Bukura Oprescu said that from January 1, all Romanians’ pensions will increase with inflation and that, according to the new law, pensions will be able to increase in the future only in January 2018. every year, News.ro reports.
“Since January 1, we have increased the pensions of all Romanians by 13.8 percent. Since September, we’ve had a Swiss formula that says the pension increase formula is the previous year’s inflation rate plus half the real increase in the average gross salary for 2024. This means that the pension score will increase from 1,785 lei to 2,031 lei for all Romanians from January 1,” said Simona Bucura Opescu on Prima TV’s Insider Politic show on Saturday.
According to the Minister of Labor, pensions will be increased annually, in January.
“Extremely important clarification. If until now the law did not explicitly state from which date pensions can be increased, then in the new law we clearly state that this increase must take place every year in January, so as not to repeat the situations that existed in previous years, when we did not have an increase pensions or situations so that these increases are made in a month other than January. We came up with this clear clarification in the law, so that it would no longer be a decision made by the government every time politically arbitrarily, and it was an obligation that we have towards the Romanians,” emphasized Simona Bucura Oprescu.
