The legendary Chris Evert, winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, has announced that she is at risk of a recurrence of ovarian cancer.
Chris Evert reports that he is at risk of a recurrence of ovarian cancer
Evert, 68, said she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2022, but announced earlier this year that she had won the battle.
Now the former player spoke about the return of the disease and said that she will not comment on the matches at the Australian Open 2024. Evert, however, assured that she will be “ready for the rest of the Grand Slam tournaments this season.”
“Since I was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I have been very open about my problem. Now I want to tell you the news: the cancer is back. It’s a diagnosis I didn’t want to hear, but again, I’m lucky I caught it in time.
I had surgery last week. Doctors again found cancer cells in the same area. They were all removed and I started a new round of chemotherapy.
So I won’t be able to accompany my colleagues when ESPN returns to Melbourne next month for the Australian Open. But I will be ready for the rest of the Grand Slams.
I encourage all of you to check your family history. Early detection of the disease saves lives. And be grateful for your health during these holidays” – Chris Evert.
Jeanne Evert Dubin, the younger sister of the former tennis great, died of the same disease in February 2020 at the age of 62.
