Romania still needs to meet a technical criterion to be admitted to the visa-free program and the efforts of all citizens are needed so that the goal can be implemented starting in 2025, Prime Minister Marcel Colaku said on Tuesday in Washington, Agerpres reported.
- “You know very well that in order to cancel the visas, I talked to every single congressman, absolutely everyone supports us. We still have a technical benchmark to meet. Here, we will have to make an effort not only of the Romanian state, but also of us, from all Romanians, if we really want to close this discussion at the end of 2024, let it be implemented in 2025”, said Marcel Colacu at a press conference, answering questions about what discussions he had with the American officials he met with about canceling the U.S. visas for citizens of Romania.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu clarified that Romania is counting on the support of the Congress regarding the inclusion of Romania in the visa-free regime program during a meeting with members of the American Congress, according to a press release.
- “The submission of the draft law on Romania’s right to participate in the Visa Waiver Program was a positive signal for us and an incentive to speed up preparations for entry. We want this file to make significant progress, so that next year we fulfill the conditions for inclusion in the Visa-Free Program,” said the Prime Minister.
