The former Labor leader said Israel’s response was “in no way proportionate” to the “horrific events” of October 7, when 1,200 Israelis were killed in a cross-border attack by Hamas, Sky News reported.

His comments came during a session in Britain’s House of Commons, where Foreign Secretary Leo Docherty insisted the ceasefire talks were “premature” as MPs called for an end to the fighting.

Former Tory minister Rehman Chishti said it was “time” for Britain to work on a ceasefire, while several Labor MPs called for a “permanent ceasefire”.

Speaking during Urgent Questions, Corbyn, who is an independent MP after the anti-Semitism scandal, told the House of Commons: “Israel is clearly carrying out the act of cleansing the entire population of Gaza.”

“This is illegal under international law and is in no way a proportionate response to the horrific events of October 7. So let me ask, is there a long term goal for Israel? Is it to deport the entire population of Gaza to Egypt?” he said.

In 2020, Corbyn was courted by several controversies due to his pro-Palestinian comments. He was suspended from the party and later expelled for what he said were anti-Semitic statements, from which he refused to distance himself.

Rocked by years of repeated incidents and a series of resignations, the Labor Party has been the subject of an independent inquiry which in late 2020 presented findings of “inexcusable” failures caused by a “reluctance to tackle anti-Semitism”.

An investigation by the Equality and Human Rights Committee (EHRC) accused Corbyn’s team of downplaying or ignoring complaints from Jewish Labor after a series of anti-Semitic remarks online or at party meetings, or even at times actively intervening in favor of strategic allies.

Far-left politician Jeremy Corbyn, aged 71, was suspended because he questioned some of these findings and rebuked critics in the party and the media for exaggerating anti-Semitism under his leadership (from 2015 to 2020).

His statements about the war in Ukraine were quickly condemned by other members of the Labor Party.
