Olympiakos Piraeus accused the Hellenic Football Federation of choosing referee Anastasios Papapetrou to “significantly” decide the future of the league after the multiple champions could only draw at Volos, 2-2, in the round of 16.
During the match, Olympiakos was deprived of two goals, and the referee did not award three possible penalties. There were incidents and tear gas was used, and the players had to continue the match despite having breathing problems, writes News.ro.
The club, headed by Evangelos Marinakis, issued a statement criticizing the Hellenic Football Federation, calling it a “criminal organization” whose mission is to “destroy” the club.
“What will happen next is unknown. The mafia will continue its activities every week, using judges, firecrackers and tear gas as weapons. Are we really going to wait for an incredible tragedy for the government to wake up and take measures?”, Olympiakos club said.
The Piraeus club also took aim at the “state and judicial authorities” who are “totally indifferent” and leaving Greek football “in a dark place” after they have in the past shown “a special zeal for the so-called cleaning up football”.
