Energy Minister Sebastian Burdugia announced that in 2027, the first gas molecules should enter from the deep Neptune, and noted that this is the most important field in Romania. He clarified that it is from 100 to 200 billion cubic meters, and thus our country will double its gas production, News.ro reports.
Burduza was asked about the billions of euros that Romania is losing due to the delay in the production of gas from the Black Sea:
“We have a perimeter in the Black Sea, which is being developed by the American company Black Sea Oil & Gas. From there, about one billion cubic meters per year enters the national transport system. This means 10% of everything Romania produces. And come in, I’m an important source. Then we have the Neptun Deep project. The final investment decision in Neptun Deep was made when we had a week or two mandate, and OMW Petrom, respectively, RomGaz, a 50%-50% partner, said to start the project and the project is underway.
According to the current calendar, in 2027, the first gas molecules should enter the depths of Neptune. This is the most important field that Romania has. There are between 100 and, who knows, about 200 billion cubic meters, which means that we will practically double our gas production, and we will be the first producer, the most important producer in Europe,” said Sebastian Bourduya.
He added that more than 20 billion euros will come to the state budget from the Neptun Deep project.
“If you remember, there is also a story with Exxon. RomGaz made a difficult decision, paid a billion dollars, bought… Consider that from the Neptun Deep project, by the way, we want to accelerate investments, exploit resources in the right conditions, safely and with respect for the environment, we are talking about more than 20 billion euros , which will go to the state budget, from royalties, from the exploitation of this resource. I think that for a four billion euro investment like Neptun Deep, both partners in the project have an interest in making sure everything goes according to schedule and that in 2027 we can produce this gas. But you should know that it is not enough to take this gas from the depths of Neptune and burn it in a furnace,” said Sebastien Bourduilla.
He specified that Romania should have a strategy for capitalizing this gas.
“Romania should have a country strategy, according to which we use this gas in the pharmaceutical industry, which is an energy-intensive industry in terms of gas, in the chemical fertilizer industry. Or, if we have no other option, at least to generate electricity, like the investment in Mintia, which is the largest gas-fired plant in Europe, with a capacity of 1,700 MW, which has been started and should be ready in 2025, 2026 in two phases.
They started, they are following the schedule, they paid the turbine, the turbine, again a record. About 300 million euros were paid for the turbine there, if I’m not mistaken. Therefore, I do not think that the investor simply gives up 300 million euros. He will be focused on the implementation of the project. But, finally, the last option is the export of gas, since we extract it from the depths of Neptune. So this is the last option,” said Sebastian Bourduya. (News.ro)
