Joan Chelimo Melli has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by completing the marathon criteria in Valencia, reports CS Dinamo.

Joan is of Kenyan descent but represents Romania after obtaining citizenship on May 13, 2021.

In Valencia, the athlete finished the race in 2 hours 24:16, more than 2 minutes faster than the Olympic standard.

The result is all the more significant, as at the start the athlete complained of a temperature and a slight cold, noted the “Dynamo” CS.

“It’s a strong feeling of release after a lot of tension. I had a lot of good results in today’s race. We achieved our goal and I am glad that a year full of failures and problems is behind us. Today we celebrate, and after the usual recovery, we begin preparations for Paris” – Carol Santasports coach
