A young man was taken to Sfântul Spiridon Hospital in Iasi in critical condition with burns on 75% of his body surface after he allegedly threw a firecracker near a fuel canister, News.ro reported. The incident took place in the Galata district of Yes.

A 30-year-old young man threw a firecracker at the place where there was a fuel canister, the container caught fire immediately. He later tried to intervene as several children were there, but was quickly engulfed in flames.

The man received II and III degree burns on three quarters of his body surface.

“The young man has burns of approximately 75% of the body surface II-III degrees of both lower limbs, abdomen, chest and face. The respiratory tract was also affected. He was sedated and intubated by the SMURD intensive care team. He is in the emergency department and will be taken over by doctors from the plastic surgery department,” said Diana Cimpoesu, chief physician of UPU-SMURD Iași.
