This is the second Christmas market to open in Bucharest after November 29 in Drumul Taberei Park. Also, from December 1, a Christmas fair will be organized in the capital park of IOR.

With the start of the 16th edition of the Bucharest Christmas Fair, organized by the Capital City Hall through CREART – Bucharest Municipality Center for Creativity, Art and Tradition, the municipality also switched on the festive lights in the capital.

“This is the opening day of the Christmas market. I am very glad that many people from Bucharest came here this evening. As you can see, it is full. This is a free fair. We are waiting for the citizens of Bucharest every day until December 26. There will be concerts. There is a House of Santa Claus. Santa Claus will come on December 15, but until then he receives letters at the Santa Claus House. There are other activities for children. Here, as every year, there are craftsmen who sell various things. There are both traditional and international dishes. It’s a place where people are good,” Nikušor Dan said on Thursday evening during the official opening of the Christmas market and the lighting of the festive lights in the capital, News.ro reported.

When asked what traditional pieces will be there, Genmer answered: “From beans with sausages and beyond.”

According to the capital’s mayor’s office, the Coca-Cola Caravan has been present at the Bucharest Christmas Market since its opening, where it parked and was admired by visitors before continuing its parade through the city.

“A traditional friend of the event, Coca-Cola also offers a unique experience, on the opening night, through a Delia-branded concert,” said the program presented by PMB.

The caravan will continue to bring magic to Constitution Square on December 1 and 2 with a series of special activations: from snowball games to creative workshops for making gifts or Christmas cards.

More than 130 small shops of artisans, urban creators and local producers await their public with a wide selection of seasonal products, as well as the most delicious culinary preparations prepared on site.

There will be a ferris wheel, carousel and train, as well as mascots and performers on stilts.

What does the program of the Christmas market look like during the mini-holiday on December 1:

Romania’s National Day, December 1, will also be celebrated during the Christmas Fair, with both brass band music and an authentic folklore show that will represent tradition and identity.

The artistic program will be organized by ten vocal soloists, including Alexandra Punya, Georgica Nikolae, Nikushor Iordan, as well as the vocal group “Burnasul” from Teleorman, accompanied by the orchestra of the professional folklore ensemble “Cununa Carpatitilor”, conducted by Dan Ionescu.

Dance moments of the Iholu Ensemble from Constanta – the Armenian community, as well as the Asteria Ensemble from Bucharest – the Greek minority, will also be presented.

On Saturday and Sunday, Elena Gheorghe and Emilian & Band will perform in the traditional event area, on the stage next to the Christmas tree, preceded by children’s choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.

The urban zone will be activated every day, both by DJs with remixes of the world’s most beloved winter songs, and with ambient music provided by Magic FM, the most popular radio station of the season. Also here you can find a selection of food trucks for every taste.

Children will love the theatrical performances that take place on the stage of the event and will transport them to the magical realm of imagination. Also, from the first day of the fair, the House of Santa Claus opens its doors. Before the arrival of Santa, the elves are waiting for the kids to compose letters with Christmas wishes together. At the same time, children can take part in creative workshops that are characteristic of both the national holiday and Christmas.

How much does the municipality of Bucharest pay for lighting

The city hall paysthis year approximately 5.3 million lei for lights, the most of all Romanian cities.

The City Hall of the capital, through the Municipal Public Lighting Company, concluded two contracts for Christmas lights for a total of 5.3 million lei:

  • one of the 3.35 million lei for “Rent of festive light decorations during the winter holidays 2023-2024 with the company TOTAL ELECTRO PROJECT SOLUTIONS SRL The contract was concluded on November 8.
  • one of about two million lei for the “Supply of Holiday Light Decorations” with MK ILLUMINATION. The contract was concluded on November 8 and concerns the purchase of curtains and LED filaments.

In Bucharest, district town halls have also installed lights, each with a separate contract.

  • The capital city hall wants Christmas lights worth about 5 million lei / Which boulevards will be decorated

The lights will be placed in the city center: bldg. Mageru, bldg. Bălcescu, Calea Victoriei, bd. Aviatoril, building Ic Brătianu, Roman Square, Charles de Gaulle Square, bldg. Konstantin Prezan, Piața Victoriei.

What Nikushor Dan says about the price of lamps

“We are no longer at the level of 2018-2019, because we are trying to balance the budget, but there is much more light than last year. Last year I only installed the ones I already bought and paid about 2 million lei for the installation. This year we spent approximately 2 million lei on installation and another 5 million lei on procurement. So there will be a lot more light than last year, but we won’t go overboard,” said Dan.

The Christmas tree is the tallest in Bucharest, being a metal structure with lights and a star at the top covered with eight tons of tin foil.

The general decree states that the structure has a height of 30 meters. Some time ago, PMB decided not to cut down a natural fir, but to use such a metal structure.

Festive lights were lit by three students who won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Japan this year: Andriy Chirice, David Angel and Pavel Churea.
