Kyiv is hunting Ukrainian officials or officials accused of collaborating with Russian forces that occupied several regions of Ukraine both after the invasion in February 2022 and before the invasion, writes News.ro.

The SBU announces the detention of a local employee whom it accuses of being “one of the first to offer ‘help’ to the occupiers in the war against Ukraine.”

The city of Kherson was occupied – for eight months – by the Russian army and liberated on November 11, 2022 by Ukrainian troops.

The suspect is accused of having given Russian troops the names and addresses of some members of the local resistance, including his father, who “took a pro-Ukrainian position.”

The father of the suspect “was brought to a local Russian torture chamber and subjected to numerous tortures in order to persuade him to cooperate,” the SBU reports.

The former official, whose identity the SBU has not disclosed, faces life imprisonment, the same source reports.

According to the UN, since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has opened more than 6,600 criminal proceedings against people “for collaborationism or other crimes related to the conflict.”
