On Wednesday, the reality show “Squid Game: The Challenge” launched on the streaming platform, based on the series of the same name, the most popular in the history of Netflix.

Last summer, Netflix announced that it would develop a reality show based on the hit TV series created by South Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk, and that the top prize would be $4.56 million, a reference to the amount beaten in the series, but significantly less (45, 6). billion won, which is equivalent to more than 38 million dollars).

Also on the same note, the American streaming company said that 456 participants will be selected for the competition, who will be gradually eliminated during the 10 episodes of the series. The first 5 were released on Netflix on Wednesday, the next 4 will premiere on November 29, and the grand finale will be available on December 6.

Participants will go through challenges inspired by the games in the series, but obviously without the element of deadly violence. Another difference from the series is that the reality show was filmed in the UK, not South Korea, and the competition is open to participants from all over the world.

However, one of the conditions put forward to them was that they had to be English-speaking, as seen in the trailer released by Netflix a month ago:

The filming of the 2nd season of the TV series “The Squid Game” has also begun

As for the second season of the original series, Ted Sarandos, one of the two heads of Netflix, said last January that it “absolutely will.” His announcement delighted fans in the conditions in which Squid game was conceived and filmed as a one-season series.

Apparently, the management of the streaming company changed their calculations due to the huge success of the series around the world. In June 2022, Netflix officially confirmed that it had given the green light for season 2.

Although Netflix has yet to announce a release date or even a release schedule, director Hwang Dong-hyuk said in an interview with Variety magazine last year that he hopes to release season 2 by the end of 2024.

Although information about this is controversial due to the secrecy with which Netflix has surrounded the project, it is believed that filming has already begun in July or August and will last about 10 months.

Given the time required for post-production, this means that Season 2 of the series Squid game as stated by Hwang, it should indeed appear sometime in late 2024, but maybe on the edge.
