Jaroslav Silgavy is stepping down as coach after the Czech Republic’s selection for Euro 2024

Yaroslav Silgavy surprised many when he announced at the press conference after the game with Moldova that he was resigning from the post of coach of the Czech Republic.

Even if we are happy now, I decided before the match that I will not continue, – said the selector dryly.

Yaroslav Silgavy also explained his gesture: he was under fantastic pressure.

“The pressure was huge, sometimes I couldn’t even understand myself. That helped a lot in my decision,” Silhawi added.

The former player has been the coach of the Czech Republic since 2018.

With Silgavi on the bench, the Czech Republic advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 (a competition that took place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic). In the round of 16, the Czech Republic beat the Netherlands (2:0), but then lost (2:1) to Denmark.

According to the agreement he had with the Czech Football Federation, Silgavy was supposed to extend his contract after qualifying for Euro 2024.

With Jaroslav Silhavy on the technical bench, the Czech Republic won 26 games, drew 10 and lost ten games.

At the age of 62, Yaroslav Silgavi coached, in particular, Viktoria Plzeň (2008), Slovan Liberec (2011-2014), Slavia Prague (2016-2017), as well as the Czech national team (2018-2023).

Croatia and Wales are fighting for the last place in the Euro 2024 qualifiers

After Italy (the Whites drew with Ukraine), the Czech Republic (a 3-0 win against Moldova) and Slovenia (2-1 against Kazakhstan) secured their tickets to next summer’s final tournament in Germany, there is only one free place left from the group stage.

The battle will take place between Croatia and Wales. Before the final match on Tuesday, November 21, the Croatians have a two-point lead.

Croatia will therefore play Armenia at home, while Wales will face an already qualified Turkey team at home.
