Israel on Monday released security camera footage on October 7 showing armed Hamas militants who had infiltrated Israel chasing people at an open-air music festival, with one of them executing a woman nearby, Reuters reported.

Israel is trying to deflect international criticism for its heavy-handed response to the Hamas attack that sparked the devastating war in Gaza. Despite growing calls for a ceasefire, Israel has said it will continue the campaign until Hamas is destroyed.

“This is a war between good and evil,” said a social media post shared with the video on an account linked to Israel’s foreign ministry.

The video shows people fleeing Hamas attackers as they try to escape a festival near the border on October 7, which turned into a massacre.

At the end of the video, in the background, one of the women being watched crouches down on the ground with an armed man next to her. A few minutes later, the gunman raises his gun and shoots the woman at close range, who falls to the ground.

There was no sound on the video, but a cloud of dust rose above the ground as he pulled the trigger.

The woman’s name was not recognized.

Reuters confirmed the location of the shooting near Kibbutz Alumim, based on a path, trees and a nearby building that matched satellite images of the area.

Pressure is mounting on Israel to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza, where the Hamas-led government says at least 13,300 people have been killed, including at least 5,600 children.

Israeli officials say they plan to focus on Hamas killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and capturing another 240 in the deadliest day in Israel’s 75-year history.

Western governments and many citizens have expressed strong support and sympathy for Israel over the Hamas attacks, but Israel’s response has also sparked anger.
