Janis Hagi: “If they saw me walking on water, they would say I’m doing it because I can’t swim”
Janis scored a goal (2:1) in the match against Israel, and on Monday he published a series of photos from the match in Hungary. In one of the pictures, the football player wrote an appeal to those who criticized him for many years.
“If they saw me walking on water, they’d say I’m doing it because I can’t swim.” Janis Hagi on Instagram.
The Alaves player posted a message on Sunday in which he spoke about how important this qualification is to him.
“I dreamed of this moment since I first hit the ball. I knew that if I became a football player, the greatest pride would be to wear the national team shirt, and the greatest joy would be to represent Romania in the final tournament.
5 years ago I got this responsibility and wore the Romanian shirt for the first time, and today I qualified with the national team for the European Championship. Reality defeats the dream.
We thank those who believed in us and the previous generations who showed us the way to such achievements. We will meet at the National Arena on Tuesday, then see you in Germany. We’re going to the Euros, Romania!” – Janis Hagion Sunday, in social networks.
Romania qualified for EURO 2024 after defeating Israel (2-1), and the scheme prepared by Edi Iordenescu will mark the sixth participation in the final European tournament.
Throughout history, the “tricolor” missed many qualifying matches, and Romania participated in only five tournaments: 1984, 1996, 2000, 2008 and 2016.

To stay in second place, Romania must not lose to Switzerland in their last match of the previous tournament to finish the group in first place. The match with the Swiss will take place on Tuesday, November 21, from 21:45 (LiveBLOG on HotNews.ro).
If this happens, there are two possible group options for the tricolors. We’re talking hellish, but also one that could be, at least at first glance, affordable.
So, in the category of infernal groups, we have the following option: FranceRomania, Netherlands and Switzerland.
At the opposite pole, with a bit of luck, we could find ourselves in a group that looks like this: AustriaRomania, Slovenia and Slovakia.
Know:
- The draw for the Euro 2024 groups will take place on December 2 at 19:00 (Romanian time) at the “Elbphilharmonie” in Hamburg.
- During the draw, the winners of the groups are taken into account first, and then those who take 2 places.
- In previous groups with six teams in each (unlike in Romania), the points scored by the last team will not be taken into account, reports gsp.ro.
- At this moment, the tricolors are in the second urn.
- If they lose to Switzerland, Romania could end up in third or even fourth place, depending on other results from previous matches.
