
Mayor Virgil Ciczak said a storm of the kind of violence Saturday night had “never seen in Constanța” and said strong winds had brought down healthy trees. He said that in the coming days the trees on the green areas will be removed, first of all the streets will be cleared and the electricity supply will be restored.

In a press release quoted by News.ro, representatives of the City Hall of Constanţa said that the local emergency committee met on Sunday under the leadership of the Mayor of Constanţa Virgil Citzak and representatives of the City Hall, ISU Dobrogea, RAJA, ENEL, Luxten, Confort Urban, Polaris together determined, what are the best and fastest measures to be taken to restore the situation in Constanta as soon as possible.
- “I don’t think there has ever been a storm of such violence in Constanta. I took a tour of the city, assessed the damage and would like to thank everyone who intervened in the very bad conditions. We are doing everything to restore normal life.
- Healthy trees have fallen, as well as trees that appear healthy at first glance but are rotten inside. I want everyone to understand that when we cut down trees, we do it not for fun, but to avoid such accidents.
- The trees on the green zone will be removed in the coming days. The priority is to clean the streets and restore electricity, but I want to assure the residents of Constanța that all their messages have reached us and we will resolve them,” said Constanța mayor Virgil Citzak.
In addition, the teams of Constanta City Hall, green space maintenance companies and ISU Dobrogea continuously intervene until all complaints are resolved.
Almost 100 trees fell, several districts of the city were flooded
“Following extreme weather events last night, 92 trees fell in the municipality of Konstanz, 12 of which fell on cars, many branches were broken by strong winds, several information boards were blown down, dozens of roofs were torn off and fell,” the city hall representatives also reported.
Several districts of the city were also flooded. The amount of precipitation in some areas exceeded the flow of the sewage system at the level of the municipality of Konstanz. Most of the notifications came from the areas of Piaţa Chiliei, Soveja – Delfinariu, Faleză Nord – Pescarie, the intersection of Alexandru Lapushnianu Boulevard with Sucevei Street, as well as from Baba Novac Street, Ferdinanda Boulevard, IC Brătianu Boulevard.
The representatives of the City Hall of Constanta also added that numerous violations were recorded regarding the electricity supply, which are being corrected, as well as several overturned poles, which will be fixed depending on the emergency situation. In several neighborhoods of the city, street lighting did not work.
Last night the electric buses from 24:00 to 04:00 were withdrawn and replaced with ISUZU buses. In the morning, electric buses were released on the route again.
The municipality of Constanta was under a code red warning for rain and strong winds with gusts exceeding 100 km/h on Saturday evening and overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
