The death toll from the October 7 attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on the Nova music festival in Reim, southern Israel, has been revised upward from 260 to 350 dead, as Israeli officials warned that the toll could rise even higher than the new reported Israeli news agency TPS.

The increase is based on data from Israel’s National Insurance Institute (NII), which found that the number of victims who were shot and then set on fire in their cars while trying to escape was higher than previously thought.

Another 40 participants of the festival were forcibly taken to Gaza as hostages.

About 1,200 people were killed on October 7 when Hamas attacked Jewish communities around the Gaza Strip, and about 240 people were kidnapped and held hostage in Gaza. Israeli authorities have managed to identify 870 victims and have sought the help of archaeologists to find the remains of the murdered Israelis. (Agerpres)
