The Kalashnikov Consortium, one of the world’s leading arms manufacturers, has increased the production of weapons by 30% to meet the needs of the Russian army in Ukraine, EFE reports.
To this end, in July 2022, Kalashnikov launched the Konveiner project, which provided for the technological modernization of factories, the consortium said in a statement on Friday.
Konveiner envisioned the gradual improvement of production processes, the installation of new equipment and the modernization of the assembly line, the quoted statement said.
All this allowed the company to fulfill the order of the Russian Armed Forces within the scheduled time and with the required quality, said Andriy Baryshnikov, General Director of Kalashnikov.
At the beginning of November, Kalashnikov completed the contract for the supply of AK-12 assault rifles of the 2023 model concluded with the Russian military in 2021, on the eve of the start of the war in Ukraine.
This contract for the supply of assault rifles is the largest signed by the company, which also created a special division for the production of drones in the context of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.
The consortium, which is under sanctions by the European Union, the United States, Great Britain and other countries because of the war in Ukraine, is the largest manufacturer of light firearms in this country.
Russia, which will increase defense spending by nearly 70 percent in 2024, has significantly increased the pace of its weapons and military hardware production in recent months, Western intelligence sources said. (Agerpress)
