USR vice-president Claudio Nesui announced that former party leader Dan Barna will open the list of candidates for the European Parliament elections of the formation after Elena Lasconi was recalled from this post.

In this second place, Dan Barna opened the list. This is the last decision we have in the party. As things stand now, Dan Barna is staying,” Claudio Nasui said on Prima TV’s Insider Politic show on Saturday.

When asked if this was the right decision, given that Dan Barna lost to Viorike Denchile (PSD) in the 2019 presidential election, Nasui emphasized that every person has the right to rematch.

“Every person has the right to revenge. In the European Parliament, you don’t vote for one person, you vote for a list of people who have the right to vote. The main function of the system is that most people are already elected. Mr. Dan Barna will enter the European Parliament no matter what happens, because the UDR will not take less than 5 percent, he will take it,” said the vice president of the UDR.

“The question is who is in the limit, there, in places higher, depending on how everyone evaluates. About 3.1 percent means a mandate, and that depends on several factors. I say that we have a lot of very good people on our list, Christina Prune, who won the first place in the internal elections to the European Parliament in the USR, who I think is a person who brings a lot of votes to the USR and who is a real locomotive.” – said Claudio Nesui.

When asked why Christina Prune wasn’t ranked number one, Nasui said “that was the system.”

“That was the system at USR, it’s not like that… There is Vlad Voiculescu who has done a lot of good, and he has done good quietly, out of the limelight and with a camera following him,” Nasui stated.

Nasui also did not want to comment on the question of whether he agrees with the exclusion of Olena Lasconi from the USR list.

“I would not like to comment on this, you understand that it is not a pleasant moment for any party to have a person in whom you invest like a locomotive and who you no longer have. But USR has been through many crises, it will survive this one too,” said Nasui.

At the same time, Claudio Nesui said that he did not participate in the vote for the traditional family: “I did not go to the referendum.”
