The Tudor Arghezi metro station on the M 2 Pipera-Berceni highway opened on Wednesday. There is a shuttle system for now, so if you are coming from the university, get off at Berceni station and take a train from another platform, one more station, to Tudor Arghezi station. Even with a transfer, the train from the University to Tudor Arghezi station takes about 25-30 minutes. By car during rush hour, you do twice as much.
Trains between Berceni Station and Tudor Arghezi Station run at 8 minute intervals, but at least on Wednesdays they were pretty well synchronized with those arriving/departing from Berceni Station, so waiting times are shorter. After leaving the subway, I went through the underpass that connects the two platforms, the subway was already at the station and after about 1 minute it left.
Between Berceni station and Tudor Arghezi, the metro ride takes about two minutes. When you get out of the metro, there are only a few logistics places on the left and right, so there is nothing for you to do there, there are no shops, no high-rise buildings, no park, or anything else. Neighborhoods are likely to be built in the near future, the station as a magnet for real estate investment, but for now this is a field.
However, the station is useful, especially because the city hall has built a parking lot next to it with 350 spaces for those who come from Vidra, Berceni to Bucharest for work or study. Even those without a car can easily get here because there are buses between Vidra-Berčeni and the metro station that stop in front of the station every 20 minutes. the subway instead of a private car.
If you arrived by car and left it at the park & ride, the cost is 3 lei from 7 am to 7 pm. Outside this interval, the rate is 3 lei/hour.
On Wednesday, the metro was almost empty from Berceni station to Tudor Arghezi station. Most of the people I spoke to came to see what the station looked like.
“I have nothing to do here, I came with my child to see how he looks. But I think it will benefit those who live in the area,” the father who came with the child told us.
“I live in “Defenders of the Fatherland” and have a house in Berchen. From Bercheny you can also walk to the metro station, if you don’t feel like walking, you can take a bus that will drop you right in front. It is very useful for those who live in Berceni, Vidra. If I arrive by car, I can leave it in the parking lot and then take the subway further. If they don’t have a car, they can come by bus,” another traveler told us.
The pendulum system will likely operate until the end of the year, until the City Hall of Sector 4 completes work on the automation system. Trains departing from Pieper will then arrive directly at Tudor Arghezi station.
About the Tudor Arghezi station on the M2 route
The €50 million (grant) Tudor Arghezi Metro Station is being built by Sector 4 City Hall in partnership with Metrorex. In practice, the metro was extended between Berceni station, the current end of Magistrala 2, and the Ring Road for a distance of 1.6 kilometers. The station is built above ground level and has an altitude regime of P+2E.
The station platform is located on the first floor, and the administrative areas are distributed over two floors. At the same time, the Tudor Arghezi station is equipped with five pedestrian zones. One of them is located opposite the metro station and connects to the platform of the new station through a 14-meter underground pedestrian crossing that crosses Berceni Road. The access of travelers to the platform is facilitated by seven escalators, as well as seven elevators, which will facilitate access for people with disabilities. At the same time, a tactile directional mat for people with visual impairments was installed along the entire length of the site.
At the Tudor Arghezi metro station, a video surveillance system was installed, consisting of 70 video cameras installed both on the platform, in two lobbies, and in five access areas. At the same time, the station is equipped with fire alarm control panels, security alarms and air purification systems. Also, for the operation of hydrants, which are used in case of fire, the station is connected to two sources of water supply, one from the public network, and the other from its own sources (deep wells).
The City Hall of Sector 4 built a 350-seat park&ride opposite the new metro station so that those coming from Ilfov could leave their cars there and take the metro to the city center.
The parking lot and the metro station are connected by a tunnel for easy access.
The City Hall of Sector 4, in partnership with the Ilfov County Council, plans to extend the metro from the Tudor Arghezi station to the Bercheni commune.
“Although this station is a finished goal, it is actually a beginning. Now we have everything we need to start the extension of the metro line to the commune of Berčeni. In this way, we have gone beyond Bucharest, which is in dire need of expansion. Moreover, in the coming weeks we will raise in SICAP, also in partnership with CJ Ilfov, with Sector 5 and with Metrorex, the project of the M4 metro line, North Station – Progresul Station. These partnerships develop the city, reduce people’s travel time, reduce pollution and become poles of development as a result of investment in infrastructure. They attract investors to the area, they bring investments that generate income, not just real estate complexes,” said Sector 4 Mayor Daniel Beluce at the grand opening of the station.
“This metro station means so much more! For residents of the area who work in Bucharest, they can get to work faster, get home faster, which means saving time. A monthly metro pass costs 80 lei, while a full car costs a few hundred lei, so saving money. But we also care about the environment. If we decide to leave the car at home, we pollute less. We take the metro to Ilfov, to Bercheny commune, to Zhilava. Any investment in large infrastructure brings with it economic development. Private investments will come, investments that generate jobs, investments that generate taxes and taxes to the state budget. I think that in the next 10 years, the south of Bucharest will know a development that it has not known until now!” said Hubert Tuma, president of the Ilfov County Council, who was also present at the inauguration.
